hip hop is not dead... badly injured.. but never dead... and i applaud Nas for making this song.. he's saying that if hip hop is dead then everyone is dead...all the rappers need to sit down for a minute and take a look at what hip hop is.... its not just a form of music, its a culture. sumthing ppl can relate to. but lately ppl juss havent been caring. hip hop is falling apart faster than americas gas prices rising.. but its not only the rappers who can heal hip hop.. if u love the sound of it like i do.. sit down with a group of ppl who dont have a clear message or focus about it and explain to them what it rlly is. its sumthing ppl can take a grasp onto and appreciate it becuz they know its a part of their life. sumthing so valuable that it can never be tooken away. so hip hop will never die. it just needs to stop taking the beating that its taking now.

I agree... but if great rappers rise to the commercial... it may be saved.

naw yall...hip hop isnt dead how yall think...its not because people are bad rappers nowadays...and people dont like it...Nas sees the industry dying because rappers arent as free to rap about what they wanna rap about...
"Everybody sound the same, commercialize the game
Reminiscin' when it wasn't all business
It forgot where it started
So we all gather here for the dearly departed"

that kinda explains where nas is coming from

Only because people keep asking every few posts...

For those who were asking... the organ intro, most of the drums (not the break beat tom-toms), and the bass guitar rifts are all from the song "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly, released in 1968. Those items are not rearranged either, thats the straight-up album version.

Nas' version is pretty slick... just be sure to throw Iron Butterfly some love for the beat.
